Beyond Limits: Rewriting Your Success Story
Sara was at the starting line of a marathon, but instead of focusing on the race, she was consumed by thoughts like “I’m not a good runner” and “I can’t finish this race.”
Guess what happened?
She didn’t even make it to the end.
Tara was a less-talented runner than Sara, but at the start line, her inner monologue included self-talk like, “I am going to win this race today!”
While she didn’t win, she finished strong.
At the end of the day, Sara hung up her sneakers and decided running wasn’t for her, while Tara was already creating a training plan for her next race.
Limiting Beliefs
Sara’s thoughts are examples of limiting beliefs, deeply held convictions that constrain our potential and hinder our success.
Limiting Beliefs are assumptions or perceptions that you’ve accepted about life, yourself, your world, or the people in it, which limit your ability to succeed.
Consider where a person with the following beliefs will end up:
· Career Growth: “I’m not leadership material.”
· Skill Acquisition: “I’m bad at learning new technologies.”
